We had a great opportunity to have some fun at the Mining Museum when Y2K were invited to host Jamie the Unicorn during his stopover in Midlothian. Jamie was on a 2,000 mile trip round Scotland as part of the Youthlink Scotland CashBack media campaign celebrating youth projects.
As Mayfield Explorers we decided that since Jamie was coming into Newtongrange from the Scottish Borders we would take him to visit the Mining Museum so he could learn some of the interesting stuff we did about our mining past and the stories of how our families lived and worked in Midlothian.
We felt like VIP’s because we got to go right down to the pit-head to take photos. Being part of Mayfield Explorers makes you feel more like you belong here. We were on Twitter and Facebook and also in the Midlothian Advertiser so all our friends and family were asking us about it. It was a good way to tell them about Mayfield Explorers too.
