The young women’s drop-in takes place on a Monday evening 6pm until 9pm, supported by Cathy Gow, the young women’s worker, Nikki Mcintosh, youth worker, and volunteer Jennifer.
The aims of the young women’s drop-in is to provide a women-only space where young women between the ages of 11-18 can be offered support, information and advice and develop positive, trusting relationships with other young women and staff.
The young women are involved in a wide range of activities within the drop-in through engaging with each other, and outside organisations this brings a level of expertise to the programme as well as beginning to break down young peoples assumptions and barriers to accessing other professional services.
There are on average 10 young women accessing the drop-ins and the young women’s team continue to develop and encourage others to come along.
Applying for funding is on-going, allowing us to deliver and continue to run the young women’s only drop-in.
The women only space has made a substantial difference to the young women using the project as they are able to discuss issues impacting on their lives at this time such as sexual health, alcohol, drugs, smoking, self-esteem and confidence building.
